Sequoia Academy's math program is designed for students to build a robust understanding of mathematical concepts from an early age. The program provides students with a strong foundation for success in advanced math courses and other quantitative subjects, such as physics and computer science. Our courses cover the following mathematical subjects:
|
|
Elementary and Middle School Math
Sequoia Academy's elementary and middle school courses are designed to introduce students to mathematical concepts that will be presented in their school classes. These courses explore topics such as basic arithmetic operations, operations with decimals and fractions, unit conversions, algebra and probability, and reading linear and quadratic function graphs. These classes prepare students with the tools and comprehension needed to succeed in elementary and middle school math.
High School Math
Sequoia Academy's high school math courses are designed to cover topics presented in high school honors lane math. These courses cover topics such as geometry, real and complex number systems, mathematical functions, sequences and series, probability, analytic trigonometry, polar and parametric functions, differential equations, integrals, derivatives, and more. These classes provide students with the tools and knowledge they need for a successful career in high school math, and for Advanced Placement Calculus AB or BC.
ACT, SAT & SAT II Math
Sequoia Academy offers comprehensive preparation for the math components of the ACT, PSAT, and SAT, as well as courses preparing students for the SAT Math I and Math II Subject Tests. The math section of the ACT covers pre-algebra, algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry. The math component of the SAT covers arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability. The SAT Math I Subject Test covers algebra, three-dimensional geometry, coordinate geometry, statistics, and trigonometry. The SAT Math II Subject Test covers several additional advanced topics, such as complex numbers, functions, advanced geometry, and data analysis.

Competition Math
Sequoia Academy’s Math Competition courses are designed for students who are highly motivated and have a strong foundation in mathematics. These rigorous courses will cover the advanced mathematical topics such as number theory, probability, combinatorics, advanced geometry and trigonometry, and advanced problem solving skills.
Younger students will be readied to compete in math contests such as the AMC 8 and MathCounts. Advanced students will be prepared for the AMC 10, AMC 12, AIME and USAMO. These mathematics competitions are run by Mathematical Association of America. Students who perform exceptionally well on AMC 10/AMC 12 are invited to compete in the AIME, which is a 15-question, 3 hour examination. Only the top 5% of AMC 12 contestants and the top 2.5% of AMC 10 contestants nationwide are invited to take the AIME. Students who perform well on the AMC and AIME are invited to participate in the USA Mathematical Olympiad, or USAMO.
Qualifying for the USAMO or the USAJMO (Junior Math Olympiad) are two of the most prestigious awards for high school students in the United States, as out of over 350,000 students competing, only around 260 students qualify for the USAMO, with 230 students qualifying for the USAJMO. Sequoia Academy has helped more than 100 students qualify for the AIME, and 7 students with Sequoia have qualified for the USAMO/USAJMO.
