Sequoia Academy's chemistry courses are designed for advanced students with an interest in chemistry. The classes cover a comprehensive view of chemistry topics typically presented in high school chemistry classes, such as the fundamentals of chemistry, atomic structures, nomenclature, electrochemistry, equilibrium, bonding theory, and nuclear chemistry. We provide students with the tools and the comprehensive understanding of all of these topics needed to succeed in high school chemistry. Our courses cover the following chemistry subjects:
- Introduction to Chemistry
- Honors Chemistry
- SAT Chemistry
- AP Chemistry
Introduction to Chemistry
Sequoia Academy offers summer programs for elementary and middle school students designed to spark their interest in science while introducing them to basic chemistry topics. Topics such as acids and bases, carbon dioxide, and supercooling are discussed. In addition to classroom learning students also get the opportunity to explore chemistry directly through hands-on demonstrations and labs.
Honors Chemistry
Sequoia Academy's Honors Chemistry course helps students develop a strong foundation in chemistry and will cover the topics presented in high school honors chemistry classes. This course will first cover the basics of chemistry: nomenclature, atomic structure, periodic table, chemical reactions, and acid-base reactions. We will also discuss more advanced topics such as quantum chemistry, molecular geometry, thermodynamics, kinetics, dynamic equilibrium, and electrochemistry.
SAT II Chemistry
Sequoia Academy also offers SAT II Chemistry courses which prepare students for the SAT Chemistry Subject Test. The SAT II Chemistry test is one hour long, and contains 85 multiple choice questions. This course covers the topics tested on the SAT II Chemistry exam: atomic theory and structure, chemical bonding, kinetic molecular theory of gases, gas laws, liquids, solids, solutions, reaction types, stoichiometry, equilibrium and reaction rates, thermodynamics, the physical and chemical properties of elements, and usage of laboratory equipment.
AP Chemistry
Sequoia Academy's AP Chemistry course prepares students for success in college level chemistry, and readies them for the AP Chemistry exam. Students will gain a deep understanding of chemistry's core concepts, and apply them to solve complex problems. We will cover advanced chemistry topics, including atoms and molecules, chemical and physical properties, molecular forces, changes in matter and electron transfer, chemical reactions and molecular collisions, thermodynamics, and chemical bonds.
