Sequoia Academy's history program provides rigorous preparation in US History and World History, both for the SAT Subject Tests and AP level courses. We also offer tutoring for other History subjects, including Government, Economics, World History, and European History.
A History of the United States
Sequoia Academy offers a summer seminar course which discusses in depth critical points in American History, from the Revolution to the Great Depression. We discuss in great detail specific events and decisions, building an understanding of not only what happened, but why and how things happened. This course is designed to spark students' interest in history, and to build and refine their ability to reason critically about historical topics. It also serves as great preparation for AP US History.
SAT II History
Sequoia Academy offers preparation for the SAT US History and World History subject tests. The SAT US History test is an hour long and contains 90 multiple choice questions. Emphasis is placed on political history (~30 questions) and social history (~20 questions), with the remainder of the questions split equally between economic history, cultural history, and foreign policy. Approximately 20% of the questions cover the time period prior to 1789, 40% of the questions cover the period from 1790 to 1898, and the remaining 40% of the questions cover the period from 1899 to the present. The SAT World History test is an hour long and consists of 95 multiple choice questions. These questions are split equally into four time periods: Prehistory to 500 CE, 500 to 1500, 1500 to 1900, and 1900 to the present. All of these topics are covered at Sequoia, readying our students to excel on the SAT History exams.
